My beauty routine, favourites and buys of 2017 were very different to what I expected.
I started off the year going crazy for all the makeup I could find in New York and not go a day without going full glam. Then, the end of 2017 saw a new girl who doesn’t wear foundation and had a humungous makeup closest clear out. It was intense I tell you. I almost halved my makeup collection and I’m still yet to sort through my lipsticks. The clear out was needed, especially for a fresh start for 2018, as I’m no longer the makeup hoarder I used to be. Wow, it feels so good to say that (I never thought I’d see the day).
This huge clear out and new ‘minimal makeup’ me is what inspired me to do this post. I’ve got a lot less products, fell in love with things I never thought I would and out of love with those things I only ever loved because the rest of the beauty world did. So, here goes… my very honest 2017 beauty roundup.
For lips last year I had two (yes, only two!) products that stood out to me. My go to full bronze sassy lips was the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb. This is gorgeous over the MAC Lip Liner in Whirl for the perfect deep pink/bronze lip, my holy grail lip liner and favourite of 2017. This gloss is hi-shine and non-sticky, so perfection, right?
For more minimal makeup and for those moments my lips needed a bit of help in the ‘plumpness’ department was the Dior ‘Dior Addict’ Lip Plumper. I have small-medium sized lips and this changes it all for me, when I want it to. This gloss is the perfect solution for a quick add of glam for any makeup look, even barefaced. This is a plumper so makes your lips tingle a little before making them appear and feel full and plumper.
I started 2017 off with using any old mascara I could find lying around before I found the Bobbi Brown Smokey Lash Mascara. I now use this everyday and have had so many compliments on my lashes since. This adds volume and length whilst giving them that wispy look. 2018, you’ll be seeing a lot more of this mascara.
Ever since getting the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette I haven’t really put it down. The shades pretty some up me in a palette with warm toned browns and burnt oranges with a few deep bronze shimmers. It’s so easy to use, highly pigmented and I love every look I’ve created so far.
My latest and final purchase of 2017 was the Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trio. The brand brought these blush trios out a while ago now and I was never sure which to go for. I finally bit the bullet and picked up the trio called Berry Adore, the perfect array of deep plum toned blushes and very complimentary of bronzed skin.
You need the smallest amount of these shades and I like to mix all three together for a peachy plum colour.
Again, another ‘bit the bullet’ purchase was in a Sephora store, typical. It was the Cover FX Enhancer Highlighter Drops were something I had at the top of my beauty wish list for a while so after trying them on in-store I went for Sunlight. This shade gives that ‘been on holiday and now I’ve got a natural golden glow’ look and I really dig it.
I apply these drops to my fingers, warm up the product then tap onto the areas I want to highlight with my finger. You need the tiniest amount possible for that desired dewy look.
As I mentioned, I haven’t worn foundation for a very very long time and it’s just one of those things I fell out of love with. After going on holiday and catching a tan, it made me realise I can apply makeup without having to put on foundation. I realised foundation made putting makeup on much more effort and I actually feel much better without it. So, a few good skincare essentials have been priority in keeping my skin feeling and looking healthy and glowy.
I never thought I could fall head over heels for a serum but I really did. The Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Supplement has been one of those products I haven’t put down since getting it. This stuff is seriously amazing when it comes to glowing, healthy and nourished skin. I apply this everyday without fail, and if I do fail to I kick myself for it. I’ve got a soft spot for Bobbi Brown skincare now, I really do.

2017 was the year I found facial mists and understood why people love them so much. My favourite was the Pixi Glow Mist by far. As you might be able, I love a product that can make you glow and one that can be a multi-tasker, and this can do both. It’s a fine mist enriched with 13 natural oils that give you glowing skin in an instant. You can either use it on bare skin or over makeup for a quick refresh.
If you’ve read my beauty posts before you’ll know that I’m a sucker for quick but effective products. When it comes to moisturising your entire body it can see a lot of effort, can’t it, almost a chore in fact.
However, the Vaseline Spray and Go Cocoa Butter Moisturiser changed this for me and now I do it after every wash. You simply spray it all over, rub it in and it dries within 30 seconds. It’s incredibly hydrating and smells bloody amazing.
2018 is the year of finding my holy grail skincare routine and I’m excited to try some new bits that I can love as much as these three.
I’ve got to be honest, last year I was quite lazy with my hair but a product I found and use after every wash is the OGX Coconut Oil Mist. This is a real lifesaver for those with dry hair and it leaves your mane smelling like a tropical paradise. You just spray it all over the hair, focusing more on the ends after washing, drying and styling your hair as you wish. It’s so quick and easy to do.
What were your 2017 beauty favourites?
