power dressing

Welcome, October.

I felt weird typing that, I don’t know why. Maybe because summer went by too fast or maybe because I can’t believe we’re 10 months into 2018 already? I know you’ve probably heard this a lot, everyone saying how ‘time is flying’ and ‘where has this year gone’ but it’s really quite true – where has this year gone? Summer kind of arrived, went by in a flash and now we’ve been greeted with autumn leaves, crisp mornings and darker evenings before we could even blink.

Although I’m a winter baby and really believe I should’ve been a summer one (I’m a serious summer fiend), I am excited for the coming colder months. Not only for the obvious reason – cosy nights in under the blankets – but because I am getting into my AW wardrobe quicker than I did my SS one. I am excited by the rusty tones and cosy knits.

One new look I’ve worked into my wardrobe is a good suit. I’ve always envied a woman who can pull off a suit and this year I decided I would try and work them to. There were a fair few changing room antics with trying some suits on and thinking I just couldn’t work it I won’t lie. Not every suit will suit everyone, but after a few try on’s, along came the right style and fit for me and I was sold.

I personally like a structured but slightly oversized blazer for a formal but relaxed look, paired with fitted cropped trousers. I have tried on a few full-length trousers with a blazer and I think that’s my next buy – I’ve spied many in Topshop and I think I need a suit from there to satisfy my suit needs.

how to wear a suit

This one is from Next and comes as a set, so it’s pretty easy to style them together and pair it with whatever top, shoes and accessories take your fancy. It does become a lot easier to get dressed in the morning if you’ve got a suit ready as all you need is the right top and you’re good to go. Not only are they easy to style once you’ve find the right one, they are underestimated for how effortless they are. They make you look like you’ve made a real effort when in fact it takes all of 30 seconds to pull one on with the right accessories.

Female power dressing is a new vibe for me and I’m all over it. Who knew how fabulous suits could be? Even for those days you aren’t in the office or have an important meeting or errand to run, they are still a look I go for – even if I am just popping out for a few bits from town. Yep, serious. I can’t get enough.

Soon to come to the blog is a suit wishlist, one I know will result in an unhappy bank balance but a very happy Meg. For now, here are a few suits I’ve been looking at as a Christmas treat for the men in my life. It is October after all, so Christmas presents are on the mind (admittedly they have been for over a month now). Power dressing is for both genders after all. Here are my top picks or click here to shop more of the range.

Boyfriend or brother, if you’re reading this please look away now.
