Even those of us who lead an otherwise healthy lifestyle can fall into the habit of neglecting our eyes. But they work so long and so hard on our behalf, that we really should show them more love. However, many of us don’t start to think about our ocular health until we start to feel (or see) the symptoms that all is not well. The good news is that in most cases, a little self care is all you need, especially if you’re still young.

In this post, we’ll look at some of the reasons why your eyes may be unhealthy and what you can do about it…

You’re making your eyes work too hard

If you experience lapses in the quality of your vision, headaches, difficulty concentrating or excessively dry or watery eyes, these can all be symptoms of eye strain. Fortunately, eye strain is not serious, and generally rectifies itself over time, but if you keep making your eyes work hard you can expect to be less productive at home and less comfortable at play. Try letting a little more light into your home, limiting your access to smartphones and other devices (especially if you spend your working day in front of a computer), make an effort to blink more and give your eyes a break from screens as often as possible. Speaking of which…

You’re spending too much time looking at screens

If your face is never far from a screen this can be especially damaging to your eyes. Not only can it make them excessively tired, excessive exposure to the blue light emitted by screens can also prevent you from being able to sleep and potentially do serious damage to your retinas.

There’s no denying that digital devices will play a huge part in our future, but we need to learn to use them in moderation.

You’re not wearing your glasses

Many of us have been told by an optician that we would benefit from wearing glasses. Unfortunately, not all of us wear the glasses that have been prescribed to us. This is a shame as not only is it a colossal waste of money, but it means your eyes have to work a lot harder and become more prone to stress, strain and fatigue.

Besides, your glasses can work for your appearance rather than against it. It’s simply a matter of finding the right frames. Just take a look at these cool Silhouette glasses. The right frames can complement and subtly enhance the shape of your face, emphasise all the right features and help you to feel more confident no matter where you are. All while protecting your eyes and enhancing your vision.

You should also be sure to wear sunglasses when going out on bright and sunny days as they can help to keep harmful UVA and UVB rays out of your eyes.

You smoke

Finally, your eye health is one more in a long list of reasons why you’ve got to quit smoking! Years of smoking can increase your risk of macular degeneration as you get older and even increase your risks of cataracts.

Take care of your eyes and the whole world will look a little brighter.
