Everything You Need To Know About Invisalign From My Personal Experience

Over the past 5 months, I have been on my Invisalign journey. Now that I am finished (and incredibly happy with the results) I wanted to share with you all my experience and everything you need to know.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an alternative to wire braces. It uses transparent aligners that adjust the teeth over your individual course. A course can take anywehre from a few months to years. Depending on your individual needs and teeth requirements, the dental practice will take a scan and from there, advise you how long your course will take.

The aligners are manufactured by Align Technology, which are created when your dentist take a digital 3D scan of your teeth and gums. The aligners fit your teeth perfectly and with each tray the shape of the aligner will adjust to your teeth movement.

The material of the aligners consists of medical-grade thermoplastic polymers with high molecular weight. They’re transparent but powerful enough to move your teeth.

What are the benefits?

You may wonder why people get Invisalign over wire braces. Here are some reasons (and the reasons I chose this process):

Easier to clean: as the aligners are to be taken out for eating and drinking (apart from still water) they can be easily cleaned. Before putting your aligners back in after consuming food and drink, you should clean your teeth and the aligners.

No food adjustments: with wire braces, you may find it difficult or impossible to eat certain foods. As you take the Invisalign aligners out for eating, you will not have any food restrictions. Your teeth can become sensitive from time to time, but it does not stop you eating certain foods.

Less visible: as the Invisalign trays are made from clear plastic, they are almost invisible unless you really look. They are more aesthetic than wire braces.

More comfort: Invisalign causes minimal to no pain (in my experience). The only feeling you sometimes get is sensitivity. This simply means your teeth are moving. However, they will not wobble or move when you eat. The sensitivity does not last long and does not impact your quality of life.

Fewer office visits: using Invisalign gives you more freedom with less office visits. After scanning your teeth, the practice will give you a chunk of aligners to change each week. You will not be required to attend the practice until you need the next set of aligners and for your retainers at the end.

Can fix all issues: last but not least you will of course benefit from a perfect smile at the end. Invisalign can fix teeth crowding, gaps, crossbite, underbite, overbite, and misaligned teeth.

Where can you get it done?

There are Invisalign doctors all around the world that specialize in the treatment. You can find your closest practice online using your postal code.
